DESIGN TREND WE LOVE: ARCHES AND CURVES

You might be familiar with curvy furniture, but have you thought about using curves in your home’s architecture?

Check out our ideas for adding curves into your space as well as our favourite trends: recessed wall shelving and, of course, curves in the kitchen!

Our vision of a curvy kitchen is defined by a mixture of straight and curved lines in order to create an optimal balance between classic and contemporary. A vision that came to life in our most recent project, designed in collaboration with Atelier Chardonnat.

While the architecture of this historic home is based on curved lines—with big arches as well as curved ceilings and staircases—the house’s kitchen includes elegant lines with the integration of some rounded elements, such as glass lamps, stools, and black metal recessed handles.

Recessed shelving

Recessed shelving is undoubtedly our favourite trend. Decorate it with vases, books, sculptures and natural elements, or opt for a Mediterranean-inspired niche made with tadelakt or lime plaster, two materials known for their beautiful texture and “perfectly imperfect” appearance.

While minimalist staircases have been very popular over the past decade, the trend seems to be shifting from ultramodern staircases to warm staircases focused on organic shapes.

Furniture is a simple way to incorporate curves into your decor without renovating. Pair armchairs, sofas, tables and consoles with a soft and natural colour palette to recreate this chic and timeless look.

Doors

Wood and steel curved doors are a perfect match for straight lines and minimalist decors. Our designers love steel and glass doors, which create privacy while maintaining a feeling of openness. Glass doors are also a great choice if you’re looking to increase natural light in a darker room.

Accessories

To add curves to a room composed mainly of straight lines, opt for a variety of rounded accessories: mirrors, spherical lamps, cushions, wall art, plants… It’s hard to overdo this trend, so don’t be afraid to combine several elements to let your personality shine through your decor!

Wabi-sabi inspiration

While they are often featured in classic and contemporary spaces, arches can also take on a zen look when combined with natural materials like wood and stone. Wabi-sabi at its best!
