5 QUEBEC-MADE GIFTS THAT SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES
Souk MTL’s 17th edition has begun, and this year, Souk is doing things differently by transforming its traditional event into a month-long digital experience. This new platform is a unique opportunity to connect with Montreal’s finest designers and makers, in addition to being the perfect place to find unique gifts for the holiday season.
Without further ado, here are 5 products that caught our attention and that will most likely end up in our loved ones’ Christmas stockings this year!
Planters and terrariums by Sarah-Jeanne Riberdy
For the Souk MTL event, artist Sarah-Jeanne Riberdy will be selling two meticulously handcrafted stoneware pieces: the Terrarium—a multipurpose bowl that can serve as a pot for plant arrangements, a serving dish, or a fruit bowl—as well as the Triplet—an elevated take on the classic terracotta pot. Available in 3 colours: ash, scotch and sand.
Candles by Esser
Designed and made in Montreal, Esser candles are available in a range of divine scents: lily of the valley flowers and coconut; sandalwood and lavender; black spruce and saffron; tobacco flower; and fig and cedarwood. All Esser candles are made with non-toxic soy wax (environmentally friendly and from a renewable and sustainable source) and a cherry wood wick, in a handcrafted cement container. Fun fact: Esser also offers candle refills wrapped in fabric offcuts, which can be repurposed as table napkins.
Total hydration kit by States of Matter
This “slow beauty” kit from States of Matter contains a multipurpose oil, a multipurpose solid oil in stick serum format, a Gua Sha crystal—a technique used in traditional Chinese medicine that has gotten lots of attention recently—as well as an organic hemp cloth. The perfect gift for skin care enthusiasts!
Kids toys by Des Enfantillages
Des Enfantillages is a collection of minimalist and playful toys and objects designed and handcrafted in Montreal. This company’s creations include several puzzles, mini wooden cars, developmental toys, outdoor toys, accessories (like tuques, bows and masks), calendars, and our favourite: DIY kits, which allow children and their parents to create fun objects, toys and decorations like planters, sailboats and hanging mobiles!
Stoneware and porcelain objects by Looks Like White and YYY
As its name suggests, Looks Like White specializes in the creation of unique white ceramic pieces. Focusing on texture, organic shapes and clean lines that evoke nature, this company’s mugs, plates, bowls, vases, serving platters, salad bowls and pitchers are created and hand painted by Montrealer Trudy Crane.
If you love colourful and speckled pieces, have a look at YYY’s gorgeous clay cups, bowls and vases, which are handcrafted by multidisciplinary artist Mérida Anderson.
Happy shopping and thank you for supporting local businesses!
