A new trend has recently captured the hearts of our customers: the kitchen cocktail station.

Over the past year, numerous customers have approached us to create a space dedicated to their favourite drinks. Simultaneously, in response to the recent rise in popularity of cocktails and local spirits, several people have set out to find creative ways to store and organize their home bar accessories.

At the time, kitchens and bars were two separate entities. We’re thinking, for example, of the bar carts of the ’60s (Mad Men inspired), or basement bars, which enjoyed their heydays in the ’60s and ’70s.

Wine coolers and cellars are currently dominating the market, especially among wine lovers. But what can we offer to amateur mixologists who want to diversify their drinks and explore the world of cocktails and mocktails? If this sounds like you, a space dedicated to mixology might be exactly what you need!

Our Kitchen Designers’ Tips and Tricks

Dedicate a Section of Your Cabinets to Your Home Bar

The “bar cabinet” is the best way to keep all of your mixology essentials close by. Close the doors to put the contents of your cabinet out of sight or, conversely, open them when you want to enjoy a drink with guests.

While designing your kitchen, don’t forget to customize the space inside of your cabinets. Simple adjustments will allow you to store all your favourite things, from your glass collection to your wine preserver.

  • Shelves: Yes, the interior matters as much as the exterior! Opt for wooden shelves or combine them with a metal frame for a warm and elegant look.

  • Custom drawers: Great for storing bar accessories like corkscrews, bar spoons, muddlers, jigglers and cocktail strainers.

  • Lighting: To recreate a bar atmosphere, place your liquor bottles on glass shelves lit from below. For a style inspired by the ’60s, choose bronze or smoked glass.

  • Countertop: Transform the lower shelf of your cabinet into a prep zone by installing a countertop, or create a “wet bar” by adding a small sink dedicated to cocktails in the cabinet (convenient for creating more complex recipes).

Hide It or Flaunt It?

For this project, we created a wall cabinet divided into two parts: a closed section perfect for storing bottles, and an open section allowing the owners to keep their favourite glasses close by. On the other side of the kitchen, a cabinet hides a wine preserver and many more home bar essentials.

Maximize Your Countertops

If you have limited space, or you don’t want to renovate your entire kitchen, we suggest creating a bar area right on your countertop. This minimalist and warm project demonstrates that a few carefully placed bottles and glasses are enough to create the coveted bar look.

Add a Dedicated Piece of Furniture Near the Kitchen

A dedicated cabinet—integrated or freestanding—is ideal for creating a bar area adjacent to the kitchen. Place it next to the dinette or in the dining room, and voila!
